GOAT 23

Build the greatest team footy's never seen

Spin a random AFL club, pick a legend from its top 30 of all time, and build a 23-man roster. Any club can come up to three times in a draft, never more. Every pick is permanent — but where you play them is entirely up to you.

Play

Single Player

Build one 23-man roster on your own.

Multi-Player

Up to 4 players, one shared pool. A random draft order is picked, then it snake drafts.

How to play

  1. Spin the club wheel. A random AFL club (any of all 18, including expansion clubs) comes up.
  2. Pick one player from that club's top 30 of all time. Once picked, they're locked to your roster forever — no trading back.
  3. They default into their natural position on the ground. Move anyone, anytime, by tapping a slot then tapping where you want them.
  4. Keep spinning until your 23-man list is full: 18 on the ground, 5 on the bench.
  5. Submit your team to see your final score and put it on the leaderboard.

Why position matters

Every player has a rating for their real position. Play them somewhere foreign and it drops — hard.

Example — Adam Goodes. Rated 97 at his natural Midfield. Move him to Half Forward or Wing (his listed secondary zones) and he's still a weapon at 92–93. Push him to full-time Ruck duty and it costs more — down to 95 thanks to his genuine versatility, but most players drop much further outside their zones.
Bench is free. Five bench spots take anyone, no position needed — they score at their plain Overall rating, no penalty, since they're not out on the ground.

Chemistry — the sleeper-draft twist

Real ex-teammates who share time at the same club give you +1 chemistry each, for every other real teammate you've also rostered — but only if both of you are actually playing your position.

Example — Gary Ablett Jr (Midfield / Forward). Slot him at Half Forward — his real secondary position — and he keeps every chemistry point with his old teammates, even while he's taking a positional hit to his rating. Force him to Half Back, somewhere he's never played, and he loses all of it. Out of position players don't build chemistry with anyone.
